In case my
previous post on the Gillette Fusion wasn't snarky enough, the
Independent chimes in with their own comments about the newly-announced razor system.
I don't know how much R & D went into Fusion, and P & G wishes it probably didn't. But I am sure it was a cast of thousands of highly trained razor boffins, and I am sure they examined every possible permutation of razor and chin before coming up with the genius idea: add another blade!
I have the feeling there will be many more cynical comments about the 5-blade Fusion soon.
I think they added the extra 5th blade because you get to shave more hair with one stroke and also it will actually increase the life of your blade.

ReplyDeleteWow, a 5-blade razor back in '05! Talk about overkill! Makes me think of perfecting the pixelated players in Retro bowl – sometimes less is more. I wonder if they considered user experience over sheer blade count? The Independent's cynicism is well-placed. Wonder if P&G regrets pushing this so hard.
ReplyDeleteThe Fusion's multi-blade cartridge always attracted a certain kind of skepticism from the wet shaving crowd. Five blades felt like a marketing exercise more than an engineering one. The Independent piece timing is interesting given how far the conversation has shifted since.
